Mosaic is a term used to describe an image traditionally made of small pieces of colored glass or stone, known as tesserae. This art dates back 5,000 years.
The textures, colors, reflective qualities, and unlimited possibilities of working with a range of materials first attracted me to the art of mosaics. There is no way around being “hands on” every step of the way. It’s an opportunity I didn’t want to miss.
As with all art, questions need to be answered or at least considered before application of tesserae. What patterns of movement do I want, which method, direct or indirect will I use, what colors and shapes will best get my point across…?
Some of the more unusual things found in my mosaics include: coins, small toys, magic markers tops, faucet handles, earrings, antique buttons, kitchen utensils, chain, eye glasses, bottle caps, legos, alligator clips, dried flowers, body parts, magnets, and metal inscribed labels.
